Marine Stewardship Council
The MSC standard is a relatively technical concept that is based on the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries. Under the three main principles, there are a number of parameters – performance indicators – by which the fisheries are measured. Consequently, many players in the fishing industry who will be working with or considering MSC certification wish to obtain more information about both the organisation and the standard itself. In this context, Sustainable Fisheries Greenland works with the MSC’s North Sea Fisheries staff, which involves, for example, participation in seminars, workshops and other meetings organised by SFG. This gives local players and stakeholders in the fishing industry an opportunity to ask questions directly of an MSC employee. In addition, there are also situations where SFG and MSC employees work together in connection with certifications or annual audits of fisheries. This co-operation is more of an advisory nature.
