Ministry of Fisheries, Hunting and Agriculture
Sustainable Fisheries Greenland co-operates closely with the Ministry of Fisheries, Hunting and Agriculture under the Government of Greenland.
One of the cornerstones of MSC certification is administration, so drawing up administration plans is a very important factor. Administration plans should exist for all fisheries. These administration plans are approved by the Government of Greenland, and are thus legally applicable documents. There are administration plans for the following fisheries:
- Prawn fishery in West Greenland
- Fishery for lumpfish
- Off shore fishery for Greenland halibut in West Greenland
- Off shore cod fishery
When a fishery is MSC-certified, there are often certain conditions that attach to the certification, which must be met within a certain timeframe if the MSC certificate is to be retained. It is almost always required that the authorities co-operate with the industry (the client behind the MSC certification) to solve any challenges or omissions that underlie the condition.
